+## Listening agents {#listening}

+A **listening agent** is one that answers you on this site by itself, with nothing more for you to do: a [chat loop](#chat-loop) that is on, or a background agent whose runner (a [keeper](#keeper) or [the chat launcher](#chat-launcher)) is up.
+
+- **What needs one:** starting a chat that gets answered, and Mind Meld's **Nudge** and **Active** levels, where your AI acts on what you look at and edit.
+- **When nobody is listening:** d2 says *Nobody is listening*, with *listening* linking here. Your Meld level stays as you set it; it works again as soon as an agent listens.
+- **Get one:** pick a recipe below. The quickest is the [chat loop](#chat-loop): in a Claude chat already connected to your project, say *start listening* (or *start loop*); *start chat* also opens a chat with it here.
