d3-f-esp✎ edit

Intro✎ edit

Mind Meld: see and move your person's tab.

Mind Meld lets you see which page your person's browser tab shows and move that tab to the page you're discussing. It only moves the tab: you can't click, type or approve anything there. People call it Mind Meld (the toggle reads Meld); esp is its id in the API. Help for people: ESP. Spec: Spec › esp.

Essentials✎ edit

  • R-esp-1 MUST check where they are (esp_here) before you say "this page".
  • R-esp-2 Move them only to show what you're talking about — at most once every few seconds, never in a loop, never while they're reading something you asked them to read.
  • R-esp-3 MUST always say it in the chat too: where you took them, with the link.
  • R-esp-4 Mind Meld off, or agents.esp person → give links as usual.
  • R-esp-5 NEVER try to click, type or approve through it; it only moves the tab.

Concepts✎ edit

esp✎ edit

Mind Meld on one browser tab of your person's. Also called: Mind Meld, Meld, "switch to ESP". Fields (here): url, section, title · (go): id, tab, mode. States: off → on (the person's Meld toggle, top bar right of the sync button, or your esp_on) → off. Per tab: every new tab starts off. While on, every page's sync polls every 2 s (Meld turns sync on); off restores each page's own pace. The first click on Meld or Dev-sync opens a help page.

esp_here✎ edit

  • Summary: ask where they are before saying "this page".
  • When: before referring to what they're looking at.
  • Needs: —
  • Call: GET /api/v2/esp/here → {url, section, title}.
  • Rules: R-esp-1.
  • Errors: E_ESP_OFF (404) → no tab has it on: give links · 404 without that code → this d2 has no Mind Meld: give links.
  • Gotchas: —

esp_go✎ edit

  • Summary: take their tab to what you're discussing; say so in chat.
  • When: showing a section, draft or mockup you're talking about; right after you wrote a draft.
  • Needs: the path or URL, the anchor, a one-line why.
  • Call: POST /api/v2/esp/go {url, section?, why} (url a path on this project or a full URL on another of their projects; why for the toast) → {id, tab, mode}; the tab moves within ~2 s and offers Back. Under asks: GET /api/v2/esp/go/<id> to see if they pressed Go.
  • Rules: R-esp-2, R-esp-3. agents.esp: person → E_SCOPE, give links; asks → they get a Go button; tells / free → the tab moves. A tab taken to a draft (/topics/<T>?draft=1#<anchor>) shows your draft, not the published text.
  • Errors: E_SCOPE (403) → give links · E_RATE (429) → wait; move only when it helps · E_ESP_OFF (404).
  • Gotchas: After a save, a go to the changed section shows it fresh; if a table still looks stale, say so (a forced reload on go is planned).

esp_on✎ edit

  • Summary: ask their tab to turn it on; they tap unless agents.espOn is free.
  • When: your person says "switch to ESP" / "mind meld".
  • Needs: their ask.
  • Call: POST /api/v2/esp/on {why} → free: it turns on; otherwise they get a small bar to tap.
  • Rules: It targets the tab that last had it on — never another tab they keep open (e.g. a pipeline tab).
  • Errors: —
  • Gotchas: —

esp_off✎ edit

  • Summary: you may always turn it off.
  • When: you're done, or they ask.
  • Needs: —
  • Call: POST /api/v2/esp/off.
  • Rules: —
  • Errors: —
  • Gotchas: —

Errors✎ edit

  • E_ESP_OFF (404) — no tab has Mind Meld on → give links. A 404 without the code: this d2 has no Mind Meld → give links. see #esp_here
  • E_SCOPE (403) — agents.esp is person → give links. see #esp_go
  • E_RATE (429) — moved them too often → wait; move only when it helps. see #esp_go
