- brief
- Compare puts two or three topics next to each other across the whole screen. Add or close columns by name. Pages and Apps aren't compared.
Compare two or three docs side by side¶✎ edit
Compare shows two or three topics next to each other, using the whole screen width. Each column scrolls on its own, and the topics look the way they do on their own page.
Open Compare¶✎ edit
- In Docs, pick two or three topics and press Compare.
- Or open it by name:
/page/Compare?topics=A,B,C, for example/page/Compare?topics=Help:Settings,Help:Docs.
With no topics picked, the page tells you how to pick some.
Add or close a column¶✎ edit
- Add a topic by name at the top: type its name, like
Spec:Orders, and press Add. The box goes away once three columns are open. - × in a column's header closes that column.
- The page address changes to match, so you can copy it to come back to the same set.
Each column¶✎ edit
The header shows the topic's name and two links:
- Open goes to the topic's own page.
- Edit opens it in the editor.
If a topic can't be loaded, the column says Couldn't open … and why.
What can't be compared¶✎ edit
Pages and Apps aren't compared. Their column says to open them on their own.
Examples¶✎ edit
- "Does the design match the spec?" Pick the spec and its design in Docs, press Compare, and scroll each column to the part you're checking.
- "What's different between my two drafts of the idea?" Open
/page/Compare?topics=Idea:One,Idea:Twoand read them side by side. - "Can I add a third doc without starting again?" Type its name in Add a topic by name and press Add.
